Having worked within Wiltshire’s residential building industry for over 25 years and personally completed property renovations and self-builds, I have a wealth of practical experience, running projects through the design and planning process, plus project management and contract administration through the construction stage.
My career started within the building surveying & maintenance sector and quickly moved into architectural design services. This shift meant that I gained a sound working knowledge for robust detailing and ensuring that whole-life-costs were a consideration when first looking at extensions, conversions and new-build schemes.
I believe that strong communication is the key to ensuring project success. That starts with clear, open dialogue with clients, understanding budgets and expectations. I always look to provide informed professional advice and use visualisations to help guide clients through project stages ensuring that necessary consideration is given at the correct stages to avoid unexpected surprises later in the scheme.
I help clients to retain ownership of their projects and enable them to participate closely as the design evolves, respecting the fact that we are designing their house, built using their budget. We stage the decisions that need to be made, spreading them over time to make the process controllable and pleasurable. Something that could have felt overwhelming quickly feels inspiring and exciting.
‘Engaging in the process of building for yourself allows you to further identify and empathise with clients that endeavour to do the same. I have great respect for those who challenge the norm and find great satisfaction in working with like-minded people who do not accept the pastiche offered by mainstream housing developers. Building for yourself and creating that legacy can be hugely rewarding and whilst the planning and building process can be notoriously unpredictable and difficult to navigate, assisting in taking a brief and initial design concepts through to a completed home and satisfied customer is where my strengths lie’.
Lee Scutter - Senior Architectural Designer & Proprietor
“In early 2019, we instructed Lee to design a two-storey extension for our central-village 1960’s semi. As new home owners and first-time “builders”, we felt so lucky to have found Lee who guided us through the whole process and it was totally painless….in-fact it was actually very enjoyable! Acting as our agent throughout the planning process, he communicated with us regularly and accurately about our application.
Lee found amazingly creative ways to give us far more than we thought imaginable of our very modest extension! Knowing we had a strict budget, Lee also designed in such a way that we could build in phased stages, as more capital became available to us. Whilst we had instructed Lee to design us an extension, he also looked at the house as a whole and how it would work for us as we created a future family home. In doing this, he made a number of suggestions that would improve the space and since have totally transformed our home.”
“When we took on our project we didn't expect anyone to share our passion for the final building we were imagining but LS Architectural Design became so invested in the end product being not only as good as it could be, but totally right for us. Their wealth of knowledge and attention to detail has meant we felt in control of decisions whilst being guided and reassured with expertise. The fantastic 3D renderings were so useful in confirming our final palette of materials, and were great to show to contractors as well as friends and family who struggled to picture our vision for the property. They challenged our thought process to ensure that we had the best design for our needs, and we absolutely love the flow and feel of our home.”
